A ver que ya nos están diciendo que el tartán es tendencia. Pero vamos a ver, ¿cuántos otoños recordáis en los que el tartán no haya sido tendencia ? Todas las marcas de moda recurren a él en otoño.

Como siempre digo, en moda está casi todo inventado porque el tartán o plaid viene de antiguo.

El tartán debe su origen a los clanes de la Escocia del S. XVI donde cada clan vestía el kilt con un estampado propio que los diferenciaba de los miembros del resto de clanes. Tras su nacimiento, el uso del tartán se extendió por el resto de Reino Unido y fue identificado como tejido de uso aristocrático durante el S. XIX.

Hasta que en los rebeldes 70, el nacimiento del punk y Vivianne Westwood como máximo exponencial, el tartán llegó a las calles. Los Sex Pistols lo llevaron a los escenarios y lo unieron a un movimiento musical y cultural sin parangón. La contracultura.

Porque la moda no se entiende sin su contexto histórico, y por aquel entonces Inglaterra estaba sumida en una profunda crisis, un Londres sucio, donde existía una profunda brecha social entre clases, dio lugar a que mucho jóvenes creyeran a pies juntillas eso de «There’s no future.» Y como de las peores depresiones surgen los movimientos contraculturales más sorprendentes, estaba cantado que el punk iba a triunfar. Una manera de pensar apocalíptica y brutal, unida a una estética muy concreta. Maquillaje excesivo, cadenas por doquier, plásticos y por supuesto, nuestro querido tartán. Además el punk quedó ligado al feminismo, ya que a diferencia de la mayoría de subculturas urbanas, daba a las mujeres el mismo estatus que a los hombres y la libertad de desafiar las nociones aceptadas de feminidad.

En 2013 el tartán vivió otro de sus momentos estelares, cuando Saint Laurent lo usó como leivmotiv de su colección Otoño/Invierno 13/14 , a la que pronto se sumaron otras grandes cómo Céline (sí, con tilde, antes de Slimane) o Louis Vuitton.

Actualmente existe un registro oficial de los diferentes estampados, con más de 400 diseños registrados y lo que es más curioso, un gallego ha conseguido registrar su propio estampado, el Galaecian tartán . Un hurra para él.

Así que hoy me he puesto los Sex Pistols, he sacado mi falda escocesa y mi boina de la Resistance para hacer un mix, entre el «no se si irme a tomar un café au lait al Café Moderne», o «me voy al mítico Club Marquee a echar una birra y pegar saltos como si no hubiera un mañana.»
