A estas alturas puede que ya estés un poquito hasta las narices de ver bolsos cesta, de rafia, de bambú, redondos, cuadrados y hasta de colores. Pero esta tendencia que parece de los más 2017 viene de antiguo, porque como muchas veces digo, en moda ya está casi todo inventado.

Porque el uso de las cestas a modo de bolso se lo debemos a Jane Birkin. ¡Pero qué me estás contando! Pues sí, resulta que aunque uno de los bolsos mas famosos de la casa Hermès, y uno de los más cotizados (quien tiene un Birkin tienen un tesoro) lleve su nombre, a la Birkin lo que de verdad le molaba era llevar cestas a modo de bolso.

Cuenta la leyenda que un día la actriz y cantante, viajaba casualmente al lado de Jean-Louis Dumas (presidente de Hermès) a quien le llamó mucho la atención que la actriz tuviera por cartera de viaje una gran cesta de paja. Por simple curiosidad le preguntó a la actriz porqué usaba ese tipo de bolso y ella respondió que todavía no había conseguido una cartera ideal para viajar, porque los modelos disponibles no se adaptaban a sus necesidades, muchas eran difíciles de abrir y cerrar y otras muy incómodas. Fue entonces cuando Dumas invitó a Birkin a diseñar junto a él un bolso a su gusto. El resto es historia.

Así que saca tu cesta del armario y si alguien te pregunta le explicas que es un Birkin original, el que usaba la actriz antes del nacimiento del mítico bolso.

Porque resulta que tienes un Birkin en el armario, ¡y tú sin saberlo!

Baskets, baskets and more baskets! Perhaps you are fed up with them, straw baskets,  bamboo baskets, rounded, squared and even colored. But this trend that seems to be 2017 comes from old, because as I often say, in fashion almost everything is invented.

It was Jane Birkin during the 60’s who started using baskets as bags. Really!? Yes, it turns out that although one of the most famous bags of Hermès, and one of the most beloved (who has a Birkin Bag has a treasure) is called the Birkin bag,  what Jane Birkin really loved was to wear baskets as bags.

Legend tells that one day the actress and singer, was traveling casually next to Jean-Louis Dumas (president of Hermès) who was very surprised by the fact that the actress had a large basket of straw for travel. Out of curiosity he asked the actress why she was wearing that type of bag and she answered that she still had not got an ideal bag to travel, because the available models did not suit her needs, many were difficult to open and close and others were very uncomfortable. It was then when Dumas invited Jane Birkin to design a bag together to her liking. 

So take your basket out of the closet and if someone asks you, you can explain that it is an original Birkin, the one that the actress used before the mythical bag was born.

Because it turns out that you have a Birkin in your closet, and you dindn’t know it!
